Ways to Give

Opportunities for giving to the Gallery span from annual support for general operating needs and acquisitions to endowment funds and capital projects. Gifts in all amounts make a tremendous impact on the Gallery’s ability to serve its diverse audiences and steward its collection.

For details and instructions on making a gift through the transfer of securities or property, bequests or trusts, or matching gifts, visit the Giving to Yale website.

How to Make a Gift of Art

The Gallery acquires works of art through purchases and gifts. Proposed gifts are directed to the appropriate curator and are reviewed by the chief curator and the registrar before final approval by the museum director. This process ensures that the gifts align with the Gallery’s mission and comply with all applicable U.S. laws, international conventions of which the U.S. is a party, as well as with professional standards, including commitments to provenance research and collections care. The Gallery does not accept works of art outside of this process and may dispose of any unsolicited artworks left on the museum’s premises at its discretion.

Art Appraisals and Authentications

For a gift of art, the IRS appraisal must be prepared by a qualified appraiser. IRS regulations and museum best practices prohibit an interested party from providing appraisals or authenticating objects.

Use the online tools on these websites to help find a qualified appraiser or conservator in your area.
