Stories and Art

On the first Sunday of each month, come hear tales from around the world that inspire children of all ages to view art in new ways. Drawing materials are available for older children.

Getting StARTed

Join us on the second Saturday of the month for engaging activities that guide families in looking at art together.

Family Day

Every January, we invite families to explore our collection and buildings through tours, storytelling, and art-making activities. Enjoy learning more about the art right here in New Haven.

Teen Art Studio

Each Wednesday at 3:00 pm, teens and their friends (ages 13–19) can drop by the museum to make art together and look at works in the collection.

A storyteller is seated with their back to a framed scroll. There is an audience of people seated around, listening intently

Self-Guided Activities

Explore the galleries using our self-guided family activities, available in English and Spanish at the Information Desk. Our family guides are designed to be used in the gallery spaces to help you look more closely at art and enjoy your time together in the museum. PDFs of the following English guides are available for download:

Two, thin guides for families, one in English and one in Spanish, are laid out next to each other on a speckled, stone floor. Propped against a wall of grayish bricks directly behind them are the English and Spanish architecture activity guides.

Coloring Book

The coloring book was originally produced in 2004 in collaboration with Yale University students so that kids could take home images of highlights from the museum’s collection. We’ve scanned and digitized the coloring book from our archives for your enjoyment.

Download and print the pages, and color in the illustrations using crayons, colored pencils, markers, or paint to transform the line drawings into your own works of art. We hope this book will inspire you to find other works in the collection and make your own drawings.
