The Yale University Art Gallery Bulletin publishes original scholarship on works in the museum’s collection, contributed by Gallery curators, conservators, and fellows, as well as outside art historians and specialists. The 2022–23 issue highlights a broad range of works, including a painting of a New England coastline by Fitz Henry Lane; a group of objects depicting an American Civil War hero; an intricate eleventh-century gold finial from Java, Indonesia; a newly acquired sculpture by the American artist Tony Feher; a ceremonial axe and staff from southeast Africa; and more. The twelve articles showcase the exciting research the Gallery’s collection continues to inspire.
