Inscriptions

The inscriptions are continuous, recording an Urdu love lyric. first the lover speaks:\r\n"The Moon of my delight has wrinkled her brow,\r\nHer stature is as the sunflower.\r\nHer taunting glances are as arrows;\r\nMy heart cannot withstand her remonstrances.\r\nWhat care we for the wine of Kauthar Lake?\r\nWe are intoxicated with the wine of Youth."\r\nthenthe lady unburdens her heart:\r\n"If my anxious eyes were as the openings \r\nOf the stirrups to receive thy foothold,\r\nO Princely Rider, that I would prefer\r\nTo withstanding thee.\r\nWhat matter the pains if I am raptured with the hope of thy love?\r\nBitter is wine, but it gives sweetness to life."\r\n(Kauthar Lake is the Lake of the Water of Life, described in the Koran, which is reserved for the faithful.)\r\n--Translation by John Clark? Archer
