The donor purchased this table and its mate from Jacobs Antiques of Boston, Massachusetts, on May 13, 1944. According to W.M. Jacobs, the tables had been the property of "a very wealthy woman in New York State" (Jacobs to W.P. Belknap, July 28, 1942, Art Gallery files). Jacobs acquired them from this unidentified woman's daughter in Michigan before 1942. Gift in 1953 to Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, Conn.
