Metal tag attached to frame reads: "This miniature of Lafayette, in the uniform of de Garde National, is attributed to Muzaisse, 1784, 1844, pupil of Vincent, is original bronze and wooden frame; owned by Lafayette's at Chateau de Chavagnee; inherited through lineal descent by Gaston de Sahune (Marquis de Lafayette); bought in Paris 1921 direct by de L. Kountze."
