Provenance

Provenance

James Jackson Jarves Collection, Florence.

The panel belongs to an altarpiece most likely commissioned for a sanctuary affiliated with a community of Poor Clares in Siena during the fifteenth century: Santa Petronilla, San Lorenzo, Santa Chiara and San Niccolò. Giovanni di Paolo was connected with the church of San Niccolò in 1453 (see Strehlke 1988-1989, p. 204).
