When depicted with their children Skanda and Ganesha, Shiva and Parvati are generally known as Uma-Maheshvara. The goddess Parvati is shown in her avatar as Uma, the daughter of the Himalayas, while Shiva takes the form of Maheshvara, or the "Great God."
