From the exhibition Many Things Placed Here and There: The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection at the Yale University Art Gallery:

Lori Taschler’s dreamlike, monochromatic paintings of faceless human figures portray scenes of unease. Many of her works contain people on the verge of action, and she has said that her paintings depict “anxious objects.” In this untitled work, a lonely figure stands in a doorway, perhaps about to engage in some activity. Here, Taschler is able to evoke a sense of both isolation and anticipation, a hallmark of her work.
