Obverse Description

Obverse Description: Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right from rear ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM

Reverse Description

Reverse Description: Temple of Vesta in background with four columns and the cult statue at center. There is a finial at the top of the dome and latticework is visible between the columns at the top. Before the temple is a flaming, garlanded altar. Caracalla stands at right of center, facing left, in military dress and paludamentum holding a scepter in the crook of his left arm and extending his right hand with a patera over the altar. A togate flamen wearing an apex stands behind him (presumably the flamen Augustalis); a child stands at his side; at the left stand a veiled woman, a child and a togate veiled man who extends his right hand over the altar with a simpulum. If his apex has a spike, the flamen is a major flamen and if it is a knob, he is a minor flamen. This presentation is unclear. PM TRP XVIII COS IIII PP
