Gallery Talk, Stones of Beautiful Colors: The History and Treatment of the Gerasa City Mosaic

One of the Gallery’s long-hidden treasures, the city mosaic from Gerasa was excavated by Yale in 1929 from the floor of a mid-6th-century A.D. church in Jordan. This talk explains the historical and iconographic significance of the mosaic as well as the innovative conservation treatment that prepared it for display as a highlight of the newly reopened galleries of ancient Mediterranean art.
