After the voluntary union of Soviet republics into a single fraternal union, the red flag became nationwide for the Soviet land. The placing of the golden hammer and sickle and five-pointed star at the upper corner of the flag near the staff can also be traced to this period. \r\nThe hammer and sickle symbolize the indestructible union of the working class and the peasants. The five-pointed star embodies the brotherhood and unity of the working people of all five continents on the globe. \r\n\r\nThe state flag of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is the symbol of the Soviet state, created after the Great October Socialist Revolution, of the state sovereignty of the USSR, the indestructible union of workers, peasants and intelligentsia, of the friendship and brotherhood of the Soviet people, builders of a communist society. \r\nfrom the Provision on the State flag of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics\r\n\r\nThe State flag of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is represented by a red rectangular sheet with a gold hammer and sickle depicted in the upper corner, by the pole, and above that a red five-pointed star, framed by a a gold border.
