The Printed Picture

The Printed Picture, an exhibition held at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 2008–09, traced the technologies used for printing pictures throughout the modern era, from relief printing through digital processes. Richard “Chip” Benson (1943–2017), professor of photography at the Yale School of Art, where he was appointed dean in 1996, cocurated the exhibition and wrote the accompanying book. During the exhibition, Benson presented over eight hours of lectures in MOMA’s galleries. All of his talks, excerpts from the publication, a glossary of terms, and details about the exhibition are accessible on the companion website.
