Japanese Surimono Prints in the Asian Art Galleries

The current installation in the Asian art galleries, on view through May 2020, highlights the gift and promised gift of a group of Japanese surimono prints from Virginia Shawan Drosten and Patrick Kenadjian, B.A. 1970. Produced from 1800 to 1840, primarily for the New Year, surimono combine playful poetry with striking images and were commissioned by poetry circles, Kabuki enthusiasts, and leading connoisseurs.
