Painted against an ominous sky, Muhammad Shah (r. 1719–48), a great patron of the arts who ruled over a fading empire, is seen here riding in a hunting procession. He is accompanied by attendants, beaters, and tame antelope (which were used as decoys). A massive retinue follows behind him.
