This vase was in the Branford, Connecticut Library, which underwent renovation recently. John Loeb served as a volunteer at the Library, helping out with the disposal of materials and objects no longer useful or appropriate for the Library. He acquired this vase for the purpose of giving it to the Art Gallery.
