At the same time as Kolchak retreated to the East, shattered by the Red Army on the banks of the Kama, Denikin moved from the South towards the shores of the Volga. Two days before the capture of Perm by the Red Army, the city of Tsaritsyn (now Stalingrad) was occupied by Denikin's troops, and the Red Fleet moved to the Tsaritsyn front after having finished its operations on the Kama River. \r\n\r\nUnder heavy artillery fire from the pressing Denikinites, the water transport workers evacuated Tsaritsyn with rare unanimity and selflessness. Thanks to the persistence of the ship crews and with help from the population, not only did they save the entire fleet that had been docked in Tsaritsyn, but they also removed a large amount of the property of provincial organizations, as well as military supplies and logistics. \r\n\r\nFor carrying out the evacuation, Tsaritsyn water professionals and all ship crews received a special telegram expressing the gratitude of the President of the Council of Workers' and Peasants' Defense, Comrade Lenin. \r\n\r\nThe artist's painting depicts the moment of the evacuation on June 29th and 30th, 1919. \r\n\r\nLL: after the original by the artist K. I. Maksimov \r\nArtistic Publisher, Moscow, 1930\r\nLR: [printing press, price]
