Geography:
Made in Wilmington, Delaware
Culture:
American
Period:
20th century
Classification:
Containers - Other
Provenance:

This wastebasket was probably acquired for the Art Gallery at the time the Kahn wing opened in 1953. The Primitive Arts Storeroom was adjacent to the Ancient Art department, who ultimately used the wastebasket and then transfered it to the American Decorative Arts department to be accessioned into the collection. The graphics on the wastebasket's label suggests a date of manufacture in the 1950s and the mail code for the Wilmington address on the label indicates it was printed prior to the introduction of the ZIP code system in 1963.
