Bela Lyon Pratt’s medal the Tavern Club shows him at his most whimsical. His design served, as the suspension ring shows, as a member’s badge for this exclusive Boston mens’ club, of which Pratt was a proud member. The club is said to have been so exclusive that the man who proposed its foundation was not, in the end, admitted. The Yale University Art Gallery also owns Pratt’s plaster of the same design (TR2013.15945.36).
