Hayden Visiting Artist Joel Shapiro routinely revisits specific materials at different moments in his career, experimenting with new ideas and playing with scale and form. Join the artist and Pamela Franks, Senior Deputy Director and the Seymour H. Knox, Jr., Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, for a special hands-on studio program that explores the similarities between sculpting in plaster and cake baking, as well as other playful experimentations with ingredients, structures, and forms. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Joel Shapiro: Plaster, Paper, Wood, and Wire.

Studio programs respond to objects, methods, and processes of art making represented in the Gallery’s collection and special exhibitions. Led by artists, students, and Gallery staff, studio programs allow visitors to experiment with materials and find new approaches to art making and close looking.

Registration is required and space is limited; to register, please call 203.432.9525 and leave your name and contact information.
