Playing Images

Four people play string instruments while seated in a semicircle within an art gallery. Music stands are positioned in front of them. Artworks hang on the wall and rest in vitrines behind them.

The Haven String Quartet performs in the special exhibition The Dance of Life: Figure and Imagination in American Art, 1876–1917, 2024

Join us for a performance by the Haven String Quartet, accompanied by conversation, close looking at artwork, and a question-and-answer session. Playing Images encourages participants to reflect on the experience of listening to music while looking at art. Jessica Sack, the Jan and Frederick Mayer Curator of Public Education, is joined in conversation by members of the Haven String Quartet. Generously sponsored by the Martin A. Ryerson Lectureship Fund.

This is an encore of the Playing Images performance held on Sunday, June 1.

Space is limited; meet in the Gallery lobby.
