Join Benjamin Dieter R. Hellings, the Ben Lee Damsky Assistant Curator of Numismatics, as he examines coins with architectural representations selected from the 30,000+ ancient coins housed in the Department of Numismatics. Buildings and monuments are among the most remarkable subjects portrayed on ancient coinage; these coins are important because they occasionally provide the only evidence for structures that have disappeared from history without a trace, while also informing us about aspects of ancient life. In this session, participants will be allowed to handle ancient gold, silver, and bronze coins to appreciate their artistic qualities up close.
Space is strictly limited. Please meet in the Gallery lobby.
