Postwar Art and the New York Contemporary Art Market

October 3–4, 2008

This symposium examined art and the New York contemporary art market in the postwar era. Noted scholars, artists, dealers, and collectors discussed how the market for contemporary art changed over the decades and how it affected the production, reception, and circulation of art. The keynote panel, “Reflections on the Richard Brown Baker Collection of Contemporary Art,” featured artists Walter Darby Bannard, Robert Bechtle, and Peter Saul, all of whom have work in Baker’s collection. Made possible by the Florence B. Selden Fund.
