Yale University Art Gallery Bulletin 1997–98

An annual compilation of themed essays, exhibition highlights, and Gallery news, the Yale University Art Gallery Bulletin publishes original scholarship on works in the Gallery’s collection. Written by Gallery curators and outside scholars, contributions vary in length from extended studies to brief notes. The 1997–98 Bulletin describes recent Gallery exhibitions, including a presentation of Josef Albers’s work and a show on African Baule art seen through Western eyes. Essays cover various works in the Gallery’s collection: a Dan Flavin sculpture, a midcentury candelabrum, and a late nineteenth-century painting by African American artist Henry Ossawa Tanner, among others.
