Renovation News

The Gallery is currently embarking on the next phase of its expansion project, scheduled for completion in 2011, which includes the renovation of the Swartwout building and Street Hall, the two historic structures adjacent to the recently renovated Kahn building. The Kahn building is operating as usual during the renovation and the Gallery continues to showcase objects from the permanent collection along with a wide range of special exhibitions.

Below are important details on how our renovation may affect your visit. We appreciate your patience during this time.

Third Floor Closure and Reinstallation

Beginning December 8, 2008 the entire third floor if the Kahn building will be temporarily closed to the public to prepare for exciting changes to the exhibition galleries. Reopening on February 20, the third floor will display works from the collections of early European art, modern and contemporary art, American paintings and sculpture, and American decorative arts.

Traffic and Parking Disruptions

From January 2 through February 28, 2009, Chapel Street is reduced to one lane of traffic and the sidewalk is closed on the Gallery side of Chapel Street. Street parking is also reduced along these two blocks. Traffic on High Street and York Street is not affected. Throughout the duration of the renovation, visitors may enter the Kahn building and the McNeil Lecture Hall in the usual way. There is a conveniently located garage at 150 York Street (between Crown and Chapel Streets), that offers discounted parking to Members of the Yale Art Museums.

Access

The Gallery is wheelchair accessible. Please call 203.432.0606 in advance of your visit for detailed information on parking and ease of access.
