Woman on a Balcony Artist: Unknown

Asian Art

In this painting, a noblewoman tightly clasps the hand of a man balanced on the back of an elephant in motion. With her right eyebrow arched in determination, she grips the pillar before her as she prepares to climb down the balcony toward the man, who is most likely her lover. Two of the noblewoman’s attendants press their fingers to their lips, in an expression indicating astonishment. No doubt, they are shocked by boldness of her actions.
