Gallery Talk, The Materials of Sculpture

Looking at artworks by Peter Voulkos, Robert Arneson, Martin Puryear, and others in the exhibition The Ceramic Presence in Modern Art: Selections from the Linda Leonard Schlenger Collection and the Yale University Art Gallery, Sequoia Miller, ph.d. candidate, Department of the History of Art, and co-curator of the exhibition, explores how 20th-century artists exploit the unique properties of various materials. These artists highlight the distinct attributes of ceramics, metals, plaster, and other media to draw out new responses from viewers.
