In West Africa, weavers sit within an upright frame to produce narrow-strip cloth, which is then sewn together to create textiles and garments. In order to separate the warp threads and throw the shuttlecock with the weft thread back and forth, the weaver works foot pedals and a pulley at the top of the weaving loom frame. Older pulleys were often figurative, depicting human beings, spiritual beings, and animals, and providing an image to inspire the weaver.
