Jeffrey Greene is a furniture maker and independent researcher with over 30 years of experience replicating the work of Newport, Rhode Island, craftsmen. In this talk, Greene explores the works of Newport cabinetmakers Job and Christopher Townsend, John Goddard, and their families’ shops. By examining the design and construction details of the furniture and looking at individual makers’ marks, Greene compares the craftsmen’s practices and methods of work. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Art and Industry in Early America: Rhode Island Furniture, 1650–1830. Space is limited.
