The celebrated Egyptian artist Wael Shawky interrogates the real and mythic histories of the Arab world through film, performance, and storytelling. His recent film trilogy, Cabaret Crusades: The Horror Show Files (2010), Cabaret Crusades: The Path to Cairo (2012), and Cabaret Crusades: The Secrets of Karbala (2015), offers a layered retelling of the ancient conflict between Muslims and Christians in the Middle East. Shawky joins Kishwar Rizvi, Associate Professor of Islamic Art and Architecture, Department of the History of Art, for a discussion about his multimedia practice.
