The Yale University Art Gallery is excited to expand the discourse on art through new technologies, including interactive Web features such as Art Wiki. We hope the project, inspired by individual interactions with original works of art, here in New Haven, will enliven conversations across the globe.

Art Wiki is intended as a place for artists, art historians, scholars, students, and faculty to contribute their knowledge about works of art. In the first phase of Art Wiki (launching April 2008), entries focus on the Gallery’s collection, which represents diverse cultures from ancient times to the present day. Currently, we are making direct solicitations for contributions by Yale faculty, staff, and students. If you would like to be involved in the core team of contributors and readers in this first phase, please contact the Art Wiki project manager by sending an e-mail to artgalleryinfo@yale.edu.

All visitors to the site may enter into the conversation by creating an account and uploading information to “Discussion” pages.

For more information about how to contribute your knowledge, please e-mail artgalleryinfo@yale.edu.

What is art and why does it matter? It’s a question we all care about, and we look forward to thinking about it with you. Though we’re beginning close to home with the Gallery’s own collection, in later phases of the Art Wiki we hope it will grow to encompass works of art around the globe.
